What is the FWC Newbery Book Club?
The Newbery Book Club is an annual book club for 4th and 5th graders. We start in September, because we just can't wait any longer, and we meet every week until the Newbery award is announced at the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting.
Every year I, along with fellow teachers, scour the blogs and buzz online trying to predict what some of the strongest contenders are for the Newbery. There is no official "short list" so technically any book published by an American author that year is eligible.
We make our own "short list" and we each take a different book from our list. Every week when we get together, we discuss the books we've been reading and their chances at the Newbery.
Here are some of our previous short lists. Keep in mind these lists are fluid. We add and delete titles as we see fit.
