Things I'm excited about

Basically I've been obsessed with all the wonderful teacher blogs out there!

I'll share with you some of the great ideas I've "borrowed" from them.

Roll a Sentence

Silly Sentences

Blast Off!

These are all great centers that we do during Word Work (Daily 5). I got it from the fabulous Mrs. Carroll at The First Grade Parade.

And I am absolutely going to do her Roll, Write and Revise as soon as I make it to the dollar store for more square tissue boxes to use for dice.

Abby over at The Inspired Apple has done an AWESOME job on some inferencing activities.

I tried to replicate it an ended up spending way more time and effort than I should have. I would advise you to just buy it from Teachers pay Teachers from Abby. $5.50 for some seriously great lessons.

Here are some things I haven't tried yet, but I'm printing, gluing, laminating and cutting them now.

We're also doing some more inferencing lessons this week. They are wonderful and I didn't have to write them!

Daily 5/CAFE

Next week I'm headed to the CAFE workshop in San Antonio with some of my teacher friends. If you aren't familiar with Daily 5 & CAFE from the 2 sisters you absolutely should check it out. http://www.the2sisters.com/

The thing that saved my life when I was first starting out (but let's be honest, I'm still starting out)was the Daily 5 for Dummies. It eases you in and gives you a script. By doing it this way I was doing both the Daily 5 & CAFE without even realizing it. I found it on www.proteacher.net. There is an awesome chat room all about Daily 5 and CAFE and the teachers on there have amazing stuff!

Definitely become a member of ProTeacher.net. It's free and there is no end of resources.

There are a couple that I made when I needed them and couldn't find anything there.

This is the poster and the bookmark that I give kids to help them remember while they're reading is below.
